William Schwartz, (1894)

MALAD — William Schwartz, 91, 225 N. 200 W. , Malad, died Sunday in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born June 10, 1894 in Logan, Utah, to Gottlieb and Rosiena Bieri Schwartz. He grew up and was educated in Logan and Weston, Idaho. While in Weston, he had worked on a farm and at a local sugar factory.

He married Olga Serem March 27, 1918, in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Aug. 13, 1983.

After their marriage, they purchased a farm near the Daniels area near Malad. Mr. Schwartz had farmed until he was 88 years old.

He was a member of the LDS Church and served in the bishopric, a stake mission, was high priest group leader and a home teacher for many years.

He had landscaped the Malad LDS Stake building when it was first built. He also was a member of the Garden Club.

He is survived by one son, Dale M. Schwartz, Malad; two daughters, Mrs. Sylvera (Hilda) John, Malad; Mrs. Reed (Donna) Bloxham, Idaho Falls; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; seven step-great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Goff Schwartz, Logan; Ben Schwartz, Hyrum, Utah; Ephrum Schwartz, Logan; Four sisters, Mrs. Rose Beutler, Mrs. Martha Hanson and Mrs. Mina Peterson, all of Logan; and Mrs. Margarite Hanson, Monticello, Utah. He was preceded in death by two sons, six brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, Wednesday 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
