Wendell Leon Monson, 29 June 1938

Wendell Leon Monson, 64, of Blackfoot and former Malad resident, passed away on August 9, 2002 at his home.

He was born June 29, 1938 in Malad, a son of Wendell H. and Pearl Lundberg Monson. He was raised and educated in Malad. One June 29, 1955 he married Verla Rae Rose at his parents’ home in Malad. Leon enjoyed life with his wife and seven children, living in Malad and Blackfoot. When Leon’s health failed, they returned to Blackfoot to be close to children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed taking his family fishing and hunting. Leon had a special fondness of music and a talent for writing songs.

He is survived by his wife, Verla Rae, Blackfoot; five daughters: Debbie (Richard) Maddox, Pocatello; Donna (Jim) Booth, Mesa, AZ; Diana Grover, Malad; Dalena (Paul) Wareing, Idaho Falls; Deana (Mike) Burnett, Blackfoot; and one son, Darin (Juanita) Monson, Blackfoot; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Glenna (Donald) Clark, Roy, UT. he was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Denease Latham.
