Farrell R. Monson

MONSON, FARRELL R., May 2, 1934 – December 10, 2006

Roy – Farrell R. Monson, 72, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006 of Leukemia after a valiant battle with the disease.

He was born May 2, 1934 in Malad, Idaho to Lyman and Orlene Monson. Graduated from Idaho Falls High School and Brigham Young University.

He married Darlene Kirkbride in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 22, 1957. They were blessed with six children and 16 grandchildren. He loved and enjoyed his family.

Farrell was employed by the Church Educational System (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) for 36 years in Weber County, and coordinated the CES programs in Toronto, Canada and Cincinnati, Ohio. He enjoyed watching the students as they studied and obtained a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the early years of teaching during the summer he was employed by various construction companies as a carpenter and worked with his two sons in the roofing business.

After retirement in 1997, Farrell and Darlene accepted a mission call to South Africa serving as CES missionaries, traveling throughout their assigned area coordinating the Seminary and Institute classes. Again they accepted a second mission and returned to South Africa in 2000 as CES missionaries. In 2004 they were called to serve as CES Missionary Coordinators for half the world in the Church Office building.

He enjoyed researching and studying the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Taking pictures of wild animals while in South Africa. Coached basketball and softball and participated in both church softball and city league ball teams. Enjoyed watching sports. The loves of his life were Darlene and their family.

He held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including accepting a mission call to South Africa 1954-57, serving as a stake missionary, teaching Gospel Doctrine classes, working with the young men in the scouting program, counselor in two ward bishoprics, Bishop of two wards, High Priest Group leader and High Counselor serving with four stake presidencies in Roy, Utah, Toronto Canada, Cincinnati, Ohio and in Durban, South Africa.

Farrell is survived by his wife Darlene; two sons, Eric (Tanna) and Kyle (Natalie), three daughters, LeAnn (Cory), Lesa, Jennifer (Paul) and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a son, Bryce.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Sandridge Ward, Roy, Utah. Family and friends may call on Thursday at Myers Mortuary in Roy and on Friday at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services.

Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
