W.D. (DEE) THOMAS DIED OCT. 17 AT SLC

W.D. (Dee) Thomas, 55, died October 17, 1978 in a Salt Lake City hospital of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Mr. Thomas was in the insurance business for 31 years. He was founder of the Thomas Insurance Agency in 1964. He formerly worked for Safeco Insurance Co. from 1948 to 1957; Olympic Insurance Co. from 1957 to 1961; A.A.A. Insurance Agency from 1961 to 1963. He was state chairman for W.I.I.S. (Western Insurance information Service) for ten years and a former member of Toastmaster’s Inc. An active member of the LDS Church; he was priesthood advisor, teacher and basketball coach.

He was born on July 28, 1923 in Malad, the son of William W. and LaRue Rose Thomas. He married Miriam Candland in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 18, 1944. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his widow and four children: Allan, Mrs. David (Annette) Henderson, Brooke and Tracie Ann; two grandsons, all of Salt Lake City; parents: William W. and LaRue Thomas; brothers and sisters: Wayne W., Mrs. LeRoy (Shirley) Wagner, Gay Wilson, David Ken Thomas, all of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services were conducted October 22 at the Valley View 7th LDS Ward Chapel at Salt lake City with Bishop Robert S. Brewster, officiating.

Interment was held at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City.
