VELMA ‘POOLIE’ EVANS UDY

Velma Knudsen Evans Udy, 86, former Malad resident passed away Friday, November 25, Logan, Utah.

She was born Novermber 14, 1919, in Portage, Utah, a daughter of Hans Lorenzo and Eliza Lucinda Halford Knudsen. “Poolie” grew up in Portage and was a graduate of Bear River High School. She married David Parry Evans on June 6, 1942, in Salt Lake City and their marriage was solemnized later in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Following their marriage, they lived in Malad, where she worked at “Tommy’s Lunch” and for the Jones Hardware Store. She later received LPN training and worked as a nurse for the Oneida County Hospital.

Dave passed away July 2, 1974. She later married Melvin LaRon Udy of Fielding, Utah. They have resided there for the past 25 years. LaRon passed away October 1, 2005.

Velma enjoyed bowling, was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in various callings through the years, and in recent years as a temple worker.

She is survived y her two sons, Dave (Gloria) Evans and Dennis (Sherrie) Evans of Malad; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rhoda Holcomb, Golda Oxenberg, Donna Malan and Delone (Dick) Greer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two brothesr, Moyle and Mont; and sisters, Hazel Potter and Marilyn Wegland.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 28, 2005, at the Horsley Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Malad City Cemetery.
