Thomas Parley John

Thomas Parley John, 78, of Portage died at the Oneida County Hospital Wednesday night of causes incident to age.  Mr. John  had been hospitalized four days.
He was born at Portage May 17, 1878, a son of Henry and Margaret Reese John.  A retired farmer, Mr. John had been very active in civic affairs and L.D.S. Church work.  A High Priest in the Church, he served two missions to the Southern States, served as stake clerk, stake chairman of the Genealogy committee; as a stake missionary and was also president of the High Priests quorum.  Mr. John had also served as president of the Portage town board.  He married Annie Maria Wells, Feb. 15, 1899.  Following her death he married Phyllis Standley on Dec. 1906.  After she passed away he married Ida Gardner on June 15, 1910.  Mrs. John died November 16, 1956.
Survivors include two sons and six daughters; Mrs. W.H. (Margaret) Richards, Thomas A. John, Malad; Mrs. V.B. (M Smith(May), Muir, Logan; Mrs. David (Phyllis) Evans, Gooding, Idaho; Mrs. Leon (Ethel) Smith, Napa, California; Mrs. LaVern (Rosella) Smith, Malad; Demour John, Boise; Mrs. Carl (Lorraine) Isaacson, Malad; 39 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Brigham John, Noah James John, Mrs. Bertha Roderick, Portage;  Mrs. Ethel Roderick, Malad.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 16th, in the Portage L.D.S. ward with Bishop Walter E. Gibbs officiating.  Friends may call at the family home in Portage Friday evening and Saturday until time of services.  Interment will be in the Portage Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Thomas Parley John, 78, who died Mar. 13th will be held Saturday at the Portage LDS Ward with Bishop Walter E. Gibbs officiating.
John J. Roderick offered the prayer at the home. At the chapel, Mrs. Azelia Gibbs played the prelude and postlude; Thos. J. John offered the invocation; Bishop Gibbs gave remarks and obituary; musical numbers were selections by a mixed quartet;; duet, Elma Bell and Lavell Parkinson accompanied by Sandra Morris; speakers were Robert c. Harris, Arthur Gibbs, Dr. Thos W. Richards; benediction, Thomas E Howell; dedicatory prayer at the Portage cemetery, John Hughes.
Casket bearers were grandsons, Mardell John, Eldon Smith, Lamar Evans, Jack Smith, Mark John, Dennis John.
