THOMAS JAMES HOLLAND
Tom was happiest when looking out over the hood of a tractor. He passed away December 11, 2012 surrounded by his family at Barrett Hospital Healthcare in Dillon, MT.
Tom was born February 10, 1922 in Butte, MT to James P. and Margaret (Nell) Holland. He attended Camas Prairie grade school and Hot Springs (Montana) High School, graduating in 1940. While working on the family farm in Camas Prairie, he married Betty Jo Severson, his wife of 65 years. As Tom would always say, “We’re just getting acquainted”.
Tom and Betty raised five children, Bub, Dan, Tom, Kenny and Mary Jo on the Prairie and were kept busy following their many 4-H and sporting events.
In his later years, Tom lived and worked in many places, including Plains, Lima, Malad, ID, and most recently Dillon – making friends everywhere he went. Tom was always known for his friendly laugh, a quick joke and many one-liners. Tom was also a life time member of the Catholic Church.
Tom is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Dan of San Francisco, CA; Tom (Patti) of Dillon, MT; daughter Mary Jo David (Kelly) of Malad, ID; seven grandchildren: Mandi Holland Farstvedt (Ellis); Tyler Holland (Christina); Jordan Holland; Justin Borders; Jana, Lindsay, and Kiely Davis; two great grandchildren: Averi and Logan Farstvedt.
Also surviving is Tom’s brother James (Therese); nieces and nephews: Monica Holland; Teresa Morigeau (Todd); Janet Fjeseth (Yogi); Jim Holland (Ginny); Ann Rehbein (DeWayne); Lynn Arthur (Brian); Joanna Turgeon (Dane); John Holland (Dacy); Terry Buck (Win); and Trudy Wigton (Mike).
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nell; brother, Bill (Mary Ellen); Joe (Muriel) and sons, Bub and Kenny.
A memorial service will take place in the spring at Camas Prairie with his ashes being buried on the 102 year old Holland Homestead.
