DOWNEY, Ida. – Thomas Gail Boam, 86, longtime Downey resident, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 1999.

He was born June 15, 1912 in Downey, a son of Thomas and Eilleen Bagley Boam.

He grew up and was educated in Downey, was a graduate of Downey High School and later graduated from Idaho State University where he received a teaching certificate.

He married Margaret Evans November 6, 1940, in Salt Lake City. They made their home in Cambridge, where Gail had farmed and ranched for many years.

For over 40 years he was active in the Lions Club, both local and state, and he had held numerous offices.

He served as district governor for the Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon area, and in 1986, he received the prestigious “International Fellowship, Melvin Jones Award.”

Gail took a great deal of interest in the Lions sight and hearing program. He also had been recognized many times for his keen sense of record keeping.

He served on the board of directors for the S.W.I.F.T. (Special Workers Industry for Training) for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, Linda, both of Downey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Grant, and one sister, Merle Forrest.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24, 1999, in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel.

Friends may call at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview, Arimo, this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday at the Downey Church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery.
