Leland K. Bowen, 68, a Kamiah resident, died Saturday, November 13, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born January 29, 1931, in Burley, Idaho, to Thomas Elmer Bowen and Gladys Sorrenson Bowen.

He attended Schools in Burley. After graduation, he joined the Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He later served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee. He was active in the church all his life.

He married Patsy Ann Townsend on November 14, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was employed by Wonder Bread and Eddy’s Bakeries in Pocatello for 17 years as a driver-salesperson. He opened a fast food chicken business in Tremonton, Utah, during the 1970’s, and worked on road construction on the freeway between Malad and Tremonton. During the next 13 years he worked as a carpenter for Thiokol Corporation, manufacturing of rocket boosters for the space shuttle. The family moved to Kamiah in 1994 where they began to build their retirement home east of Kamiah.

Survivors included his wife at the family home; four sons; Robert Bowen of Spokane, Washington, Tom Bowen of Robin, Idaho, Chris Bowen of Malad, and John Bowen of Kamiah; six daughters; Jane Ransley of Boise, LeAnne Childs, of Kamiah, Georgeann Anderson, of Missoula, Montana, Amy Peedle of Tremonton, Letty Harris of Malad, and Karla Oatman of Kamiah; three brothers; Wayne Bowen of Springville, Utah, Richard Bowen of Perry, Utah, and Jerry Bowen of American Fork, Utah; one sister; Betty Hall of McGill, Nevada; 38 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were three brothers; Garth, Elmer and Jack Bowen.

Funeral Services will be held at the Kamiah LDS Church Thursday at 11:oo a.m. Military grave- side rites will follow at the Kamiah Cemetery.
