FUNERAL TUESDAY FOR THAD THORPE

Funeral services for Thaddous Thorpe, 19, were conducted Tueday at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant View Ward Chapel. Bishop John Roderick was in charge.

The prayer at the home was by Ruel Ipsen. The invocation was by LaVern Smith and the benediction by G. Max King. The speakers were Bishop Roderick, Capt. Robert S. Clark, USN Naval ROTC and University of Utah representative, Dr. Thomas W. Richards and J.M. Isaacson. The prelude and postlude music was by Iris Barker. Other musical numbers were a vocal duet, Polly Thomas and Karen Yearsley; vocal duet, Florence and Grant Ipsen; vocal solo, Thelma Gibbs; vocal solo, Melvin Atkinson accompanied by Fern Willie and Pauline Atkinson.

The dedicatory prayer was by Joseph Thorpe.

Mr. Thorpe was a member of the Naval ROTC at the U of U. and received a partial military funeral. His ROTC classmates acted as honorary pallbearers. Those from the ROTC at the U of U who cam for the funeral were Capt. Robert S. Clark. Lt. Gregory Panawek, Midshipman Grady Harrison, George A. Phelps, Jr., Harry E. Workman, Robert T. Huff, Albert E. Jenkins, Paul N. Anderson, Robert E. Merfin, Michael H. Farny, C.H. Lucero, Ronald F. Munroe, Larry G. Campbell.

Mr. Thorpe was killed about 1:45 a.m. Friday, April 10, 1953 in a Salt Lake City car accident. Two other young men, John A. Paramore, Jr., 23, Provo, who was driving the car, and Kenneth Richard Keirn, 18, Altadena, CA were also killed instantly in the crash.

Surviving are his parents, three brothers and six sisters: Mrs. G. Max (Phoebe) King, Logan; Mrs. Nolan (Bernice) Armstrong, Robin, ID; Clyde Thorpe, Ogden; T-Sgt. Eugene W. Thorpe with the US Air Force in Italy; Thomas Calvin Thorpe, Van Nuys, CA; Mrs. LaVern W. (Joyce) Colton, Malad; Mrs. Wm. L. (Gladys) Evans, Sacramento, CA; Mrs. Cleon H. (Lovina) Spencer, Madras, OR; Mrs. Loren E. (Ione) Price, Othello, WA.

Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
