Stephen Stayner died Sat., funeral held Tues.

Steve Stayner, age 85, of 147 Bannock St., died Saturday, Jan. 29, in a Bountiful Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 18, 1891 at Fielding, Utah, a son of Herbert J. and Nettie Stevenson Stayner.

He married Catherine E. Daniels Oct. 14, 1912 in Ogden; the marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in 1965. Mrs. Stayner died Dec. 3, 1976.

Mrs.[sic] Stayner attended Brigham Young academy at Provo one year. He came to Malad in 1920 and homesteaded in the Daniels area in Oneida County.

He was an Elder in the LDS Second Ward. He operated a general store for the Farmers Union in the Daniels Area. He moved to Malad where he opened a grocery store and butcher shop in partnership with his brother Frank Stayner. In 1934 he managed the Malad Division of Pillsbury Mills for 24 years, and retired in 1958.

Survivors include one son and one daughter, Owen D. Stayner, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Stewart (Donna) England, bountiful; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral Service

Services for Mr. Stayner were held Tuesday, Feb. 1 with counselor David Hill officiating.
Family prayer was offered by James Felsted(sic). Ellis L. Williams offered the invocation. Bishop Jesse Hughes gave the obituary and remarks. Speaker was President Myron P. Sorensen. Dale Daniels offered the benediction. Vocal selections were rendered by Carol Daniels and Paula Morby. Iris Blaisdell accompanied, and played prelude and postlude music. Concluding rites were at Malad City Cemetery where Raiford G. Benson gave the dedicatory prayer. Malad 2nd Ward Relief Society, Glenda Jenson, president, was in charge of flowers. Honorary bearers were Dale Rees, Stephen Stayner, Mark Stayner and Owen Stayner, Jr. Casket bearers were Scott Stayner, Farrell Daniels, Joe Daniels, Ray Jones, Clair Bush and Rex Daniels.
