Stella Thometz

Stella Jones Thometz, 102-year-old Lewiston, Idaho homemaker, died of pneumonia Dec. 22, 1992, at Lewiston. She was born March 8, 1890, at Malad City, to William H. and Mary J. Daniels Jones. She lived in Malad City and Pocatello until 1928. Funeral services will be held in the Malad City First United Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9. Burial will follow at the Malad City Cemetery. Vas-sar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.

She was 102.

She and her husband, Joseph W. Thometz, lived at Lewiston for many years and he was the Nez Perce County agricultural agent for 26 years.

An Idaho native, she was born March 8, 1890, at Malad City to Mary Jane Daniels Jones and William Hugh Jones.

She attended the Malad Presbyterian Mission School and later attended the University of Utah.

She lived for a few years at Pocatello with her sister and brother-in-law. While there, she met her husband, who was serving as the University of Idaho agricultural extension agent for Bannock County.

They married December 6, 1928, at Portland, Oregon, and later moved to Lewiston. He retired in 1952 and died November 17, 1969.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Ruth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was past president of the Lewiston American Legion Auxiliary. She was a life-long member of the Democratic Party and enjoyed embroidery and needlepoint.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Her funeral will be January 9 at 1:00 p.m., at the First United Presbyterian Church at Malad City with Reverend Jonathan Rice officiating.

Burial will follow at the Malad City Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Joe Thometz Scholarship Fund at the University of Idaho at Moscow.
