Shirley R. Tew, 66, died Sunday, May 25, 1997 at Ogden Regional Medical Center from complications due to diabetes.
She was born June 4, 1930, in Malad, Idaho; a daughter of LaMar J. and Annaabel Thomas.
She married F. Eugene Tew on June 2, 1948 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Shirley was a member of the Pleasant View 5th Ward and had served in numerous positions in the LDS church, including teacher, counselor and president of the primary, counselor and president of the Relief Society and various scouting positions.
Shirley enjoyed gardening, crafts, crocheting and being in the outdoors. Her life was dedicated to serving others and she took advantage of every opportunity to help her friends and family. She cherished the times she shared with her husband and family, and was especially proud of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Tew, three sons, Tim Tew (Caryn) Dallas, Texas; Richard Tew (Georgia) Fruit Heights, Utah; and Steven Tew (Sherma) Park City, Utah; two sisters, Marlene Blake (James) Lumberton, North Carolina and Cheryl Atkinson, Salt Lake City, Utah; one brother, Les Braker (Rita) Smithfield, Utah; 10 grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Elton Ashton, and two sisters, Deann Burnett and Donna Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel, 896 W. Pleasant View Drive, Pleasant View, Utah with Bishop Todd Erickson officiating.
Friends may also attend a viewing on Wednesday, May 28, 1997 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., North Ogden, Utah or Thursday morning from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel prior to the funeral.
Interment: Ben Lomond North Ogden Cemetery.
