GRANT THORPE

Samuel Grant Thorpe, 67, of Samaria, died October 18, 1988 in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born July 2, 1921 in Samaria to Wilford Memmott and Hannah Price Thorpe. He was raised and educated in Samaria and Malad.

He married Gloria Eliza Hall November 27, 1941 in Samaria. She died March 15, 1985.

He served in the US Marines during World War II. He worked heavy construction his entire life and had lived in Promontory, Honeyville and Bear River City, UT. For the past several years he lived in Samaria. Over the years he operated a farm there.

He married Doris Gibbons July 3, 1986.

He was a member of the LDS Church.

He served on the Samaria Cemetery Board for several years and was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Operating Engineers Union. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of Ogden; three sons, Brent H. Thorpe, Brigham City, UT; Lonnie G. Thorpe, Willard, UT; Tim H. Thorpe, Tremonton, UT; one daughter, Louise Lokken, Tremonton; one sister, Mrs. Lyn (Leone) Reynolds, Pacific Palisades, Ca; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary; one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Frank Madsen officiating. Burial was in the Samaria Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.
