Reva Jones Thorpe, (1921)

THORPE, REVA JONES – October 17, 1921 – May 14, 2003

Reva Jones Thorpe, 81, of Malad, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 in the Oneida County Hospital, following a long illness.

She was born on October 17, 1921 in Cherry Creek, Idaho, just south of Malad, the first child of Verl D. and Vera Harris Jones. Reva was raised and educated in Malad, was a graduate of Malad High School, and played on the girl’s high school basketball team, which was undefeated.

She married Williams “Billy” Thorpe November 22, 1939 in the Salt lake city LDS Temple. Most of her married life was lived in Mala. Mr. Thorpe passed away in September of 2002.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in various callings through the years. Reva loved spending time with her family, was an avid sports fan and was especially interested in local events and following the Utah jazz. For several years, she and Billy loved traveling to St. George, where they spent the winter.

She is survived by five children: William Brent (Ann) Thorpe, Orem, Utah, Sondra Sue (George) Dryer, Bountiful, Utah; Peggy (Terril) Schwartz, Brad Thorpe, Brooks (Loa Dawn) Thorpe, all of Malad; one daughter-in-law Linda DeMasters (wife of the late Bart Thorpe), Emmett; one brother, Sheldon (Faye) Jones, Lava Hot Springs; one sister, Karma (Lynn) Hawkins, Pocatello; 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Bart J., one great-granddaughter, Samantha Ann Judy.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Malad LDS 3rd/6th Ward Chapel. Burial followed in the Malad City Cemetery.
