Roy Thomas Whitworth 1941 – 2007

Roy Thomas Whitworth beloved father and grandfather passed away August 15, 2007 at his home in West Valley City. He was born January 7, 1941 in Malad, Idaho to John Milton Whitworth and Anna Shuldberg Whitworth. He attended Cyprus High School and graduated from Granger High School. Attended Snow College where he played football and baseball. He graduated with a bachelor and masters degree from the University of Utah where he also played baseball. He married Bonnie Lopez on September 1, 1961 in Granger, Utah. Later divorced. Roy and Bonnie raised three children: William “Bill” Whitworth (Carol Ann), Steve Whitworth (Shari), Sheri Lehmann (David). 10 grandchildren: Darin (Marianne), David, Danika, Zaccary, Devri, Alexis, Brock, Ashlyn, Lukas, and Jake. One great grandchild Mari Kate. Survived by two brothers, Dean Whitworth (Sandy) and Don Whitworth (Candy) and three sisters, Katherine Olson, Kliss Sparks, Joanne Archibald (Merlin), and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, mother and older brother John William. Roy was an outstanding teacher, football and wrestling coach for many years at Cyprus, Bingham and Hillcrest High Schools. He was loved by all his former students and athletes. He had a great gift for making friends where ever he went. He also enjoyed many activities with his family like fishing, boating, camping, snowmobiling, ATV’s, and supporting his grandchildren in all their various activities. His favorite places were Lake Powell, Las Vegas, Island Park and Woodland. His generosity touched many lives. He will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. A very special thanks to Grace Benfield, his partner, for the last months of his life. Her tender, loving care is appreciated by his family. Funeral services will be held Sat., August 18th at 2 p.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 3305 S. 3960 W., West Valley City. Family and friends may call August 17th from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View Memorial 4335 W. 4100 S. and Sat. 12:45-1:45 pm at the chapel. Interment at Valley View Memorial.
