Richard (Dick) Allen Wheeler obit

WHEELER, RICHARD A., January 4, 1922 – January 19, 2008

FARR WEST – Richard (Dick) Allen Wheeler, 86, passed away January 19, 2008 in Plain City. He was born January 4, 1922 in Stone, Idaho, to Nathan Andrew and Sarah Allen Wheeler.

Dad learned to work hard growing up on the farm in Stone, Idaho and excelled through school graduating early. His family moved to Brigham City in his teen years where he helped with the farm and fruit orchards.

He joined the U.S. Army and served honorably during World War II. Upon returning he worked for the Ogden Arsenal, then Hill Air Force Base where he retired after 30 years of service.

In 1951, Dick met and married the love of his life, June McMillen in Elko, Nevada. She passed away in 1983.

Dad loved to tinker and could fix anything. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, camping and especially fishing out on the Oregon coast. One of Dad’s greatest passions was gold prospecting and showing off his finds or chatting about where the next big nuggets were at. His love of the outdoors got him into ATVs. He loved to go on long rides with his family. Dad will be deeply missed, especially our times on Grandpa’s Mountain with him.

He is survived by his children, Steven A. (Ela) Wheeler, Pleasant View; Tony A. (Vicky) Wheeler, Ogden; Ann (Jeff) McMillen, Plain City; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Nathan C. (Melba) Wheeler, John L. (Bev) Wheeler, and two sisters, Peggy (George) Neal and Carma (Les) Shaw.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two infant brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary.
