Olaf Auden Wharton

MALAD — Olaf Auden Wharton, 89, of Malad, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1992, in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1903, in Oark, Johnson County, Ark., son of Nathanial Joshua and Sintha Adline Uptain Wharton. He received his schooling at Mt. Eirie, Ark. While in Arkansas he met and married Norma Evelean Jones on Dec. 16, 1923. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple March 28, 1962.

He spent many years in the blacksmith trade, and enjoyed building and repairing most anything. He also enjoyed sharing memories of his life, and the lives of family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Malad; a son and spouse, Kenneth Lavaughn and Karen Wharton, Malad; three grandchildren, 10 great­grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl Hancock, Downey, Idaho. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thelbert, Carl, and Verdie, and two sisters, Alta Myers and Bethenia Hamlin.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 29, at noon in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel, Bishop Wendell Smith officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday prior to services. Interment will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
