Ralph Andrew Nielsen, 35, Portage, died Monday at 2:10 p.m. in the Oneida County hospital from injuries received Nov. 13 while felling trees at his farm.
He was standing some 20 feet from a tree when a large branch fell off and hit him. He suffered a brain concussion, fractured arm and internal injuries.
He was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Portage, a son of Joseph A. and Ruby Williams Nielsen. He ws reared in portage, graduated from Bear River High School and attended the USAC for three years. A veteran of World War 11, he served for 39 months in the South Pacific with the 13th Air Force.
He married Audrey Crofts, March 3, 1949, and they received their endowments in 1951, in the Logan LDS temple. He was an active church member and at the time of his death was president of the first quorum of elders in the Malad Stake and was superintendent of the Portage Ward YMMIA.
Surviving are his widow of Portage, his mother of Garland, one brother and six sisters: Reed Nielsen, portage; Mrs. Navelle Rhodes, East Garland; Mrs. Nan Bowcutt, Garland, Mrs. Ruby Stephenson, Mrs. Beth Christensen, Mrs. LaRue Glasmann, and Mrs. Donna Rae Vandersteen, all of Ogden.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Bear River Stake Tabernacle with Bishop Ora John of Portage in charge.
Friends may call at Rogers Mortuary, Tremonton, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ruby W. Nielsen, Garland, Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
