Mrs. Ruby Williams Nielsen, 78, of Garland, died Tuesday in the Cooley Memorial Hospital in Brigham City of cancer.
Mrs. Nielsen was born Feb. 26, 1888, in Paradise, Utah, a daughter of Andrew Simeon and Mary Ann Shaw Williams.
She attended Utah State University and graduated from Brigham Young College at Logan. After graduating she taught school in Hyrum.
On Jan. 23, 1908, she was married to Joseph A. Nielsen in Brigham City. They received endowments in the Logan LDS Temple on March 8, 1909. Mr. Nielsen died in July 1947.
The couple moved to Portage where they were active in farming and ranching. In 1938 they moved to Garland and continued in farming and ranching until Mr. Nielsen’s death.
Active in the LDS Church, Mrs. Nielsen served as counselor and president in the Portage Ward Relief Society from 1918-1938. At that time she became a member of the Bear River Relief Society Stake Board and was counselor and stake president from 1940 to 1956. She had served as a stake missionary at the Logan Temple Genealogy Library and was an active temple worker.
She had been president of the North Box Elder Farm Bureau, the American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. A member of the Garland Ladies Self Culture Club, she served as president during 1958 and 1959.
Surviving are seven sons and daughters, J. Reed Nielsen, Portage; Mrs. Ross (NaVelle) Rodes and Mrs. Arbon (Nan) Bowcutt, both of Garland; Mrs. J. R. (Donna) VanderSteen, Brigham City; Mrs. Russell A. (Bea) Stephenson, Mrs. Lowell J. (Beth) Christensen, Mrs. Robert V. (LaRue)Glasmann, all of Ogden; 27 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, the following brothers: Afton S. Williams, Carlin, Nev.; Scott Williams, Salt Lake City; C.B. Williams, Brigham City; one sister, Mrs. A.E. (Lucille) Brown, Sunset.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon in the Garland First Ward Chapel with Bishop Arnold Larson officiating.
Friends may call at the Rogers Mortuary in Tremonton Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday prior to services.
Burial will be in the Hyrum Cemetery, directed by Benson Funeral Home in Malad.
