THAYNE THOMPSON
DOWNEY – Orville Thayne Thompson, 74, longtime Virginia resident and husband of Betty Morrison Thompson, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2000, of sudden heart failure.

He was born March 7, 1926 in Virginia, Idaho, a son of William Orville and Gertrude Owen Thompson.

He was raised and educated in Virginia and Downey and was a graduate of Downey High School class of 1944.

Thayne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Betty Morrison in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on September 10, 1946. He attended Utah State University, where he received B.S. and M.S. degrees in animal husbandry. He taught argriculture classes for two years at Union High School in Oregon. In 1952 he returned to Virginia where he had since farmed and ranched.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had served in various callings through the years, including bishop, high councilman, Elders Quorum president. High Priest group leader, Primary teacher, home teacher, and with his wife, had served as Logan Temple officiators.

He was active in the Farm Bureau, the Idaho Cattleman’s Association, the Portneuf Canal and River Boards, as a director of the Downey State Bank, the Idaho and American Hereford Associations, Idaho Wheat Growers, and the American Legion Downey Post #21.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Virginia; daughters, Annette (Curtis) Pope of Burley; Beverly (Mark) Fladmo of Farmington, Utah; Cynthia (Dave) Harris of Hyde Park, Utah; Dorilee (Wayne) Clegg of Soda Springs; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Riley) Mickelson of Grace; Lrona (Jay) Christopherson of Providence, Utah; brothers, John (Carolyn) Thompson of Pocatello; Leon (Elaine) Thompson of Idaho Falls; sister-in-law, Rita Fink of Pocatello.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William O.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2000, at noon in the Arimo, Idaho, LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may call at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meaowview Dr., Arimo, on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery with military rites by the Downey American Legion Post #21.
