Charles Erwin Thomas, (1925)

THOMAS, CHARLES ERWIN, November 12, 1925 – May 5, 2006

Charles Erwin Thomas passed away May 5, 2006 due to pulmonary fibrosis. He was born November 12, 1925 to Charles Edward and Viola Peterson Thomas in Pleasantview, ID. He married Sharee Westover, January 5, 1951, later divorced. He married Cathy Miller July 25, 1991.

Charles served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during World War II. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Eastern States Mission. He graduated from BYU.

He owned and operated a ranch in Pleasantview and then got into selling during winter months; principally school band uniforms and other musical equipment, being instrumental in doing acoustics for the Utah Symphony Orchestra. He was well known for his expertise in playing the “saw”. He also started his own pantyhose company (Charles Whisper Sheer) and then went into his own steel building business which went well until interest rates went sky high. He later sold advertising, wrote an article, “Everything You Always Wanted to Know” for the Golden Age Senior newspaper, which was later put into a book by the same title and sold in many book stores. He later worked as a crossing guard for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Dept and the Murray City Police Dept. at Woodstock Elementary.

He survived by his wife, Cathy; son, Eric (Debby) Thomas, Idaho Falls, ID; daughters: Teri Wallis, Middleton, ID, Kris (Mike) Nemelka, Glenwood Springs, CO, Kathy Thomas, Ukraine, Wendy (Joe) Dimond, Payson, UT; step-daughter, Kim (Rick) Whatley; stepsons, Mark Bolinder, Troy (Laura) Johnson; 19 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Hope Price, Malad, ID, Renee Burgess, Midvale, Gayle (Reed) Walker, Post Falls, ID, Criesta (Alvin) Bytheway, Murray, Polly Steenblik, Salt Lake City; several nieces and nephews. Preceded indeath by a brother, mark (JoAnne) Thomas; three brothers-in-law: John Steenblik, Tom Burgess, Ralph Price.

Cremation has taken place per Charles’ wish. Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 9, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary. Entombment took place in the Holladay Memorial Park.
