ORRIN KARL KARTCHNER

Orrin Karl Kartchner, Jr. was born April 22, 1922 in Malad, ID to Orrin Karl and Margaret Laws Kartchner. He passed away at home on May 14, 2012.

Orrin married Bertha Anderson on October 25, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from Davis High School. He served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific as a mechanic in the 289th Medium Mobile Maintenance. He watched the signing of the WWI peace agreement with Japan through field glasses from an adjacent ship.

Orrin retired from Hill AFB after 34 years. He was active in scouting in the ward, stake and district. Orrin received the Silver Beaver scouting award for his service. He saved two people’s lives with his knowledge of APR. His hobby was fixing tractors and making them run like new. He shared his knowledge of tractor repair with many.

He was a High Priest in the Taylor Fourth Ward. He served as a family history missionary along with his wife for 14 years.

Orrin is survived by his wife, Bertha; sons, Glenn (Debbi), Lloyd (Myra), Wayne (Jackie), Val; one brother, George Kartchner; 16 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Dale; a daughter-in-law, Julie; parents; three sisters: Ellen Kartchner, Nora McFadden and Linda Sacco; and brother, Dean Kartchner.

Funeral services will be held May 18 at the Taylor 4th Ward Chapel, S. Ogden, UT. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
