FUNERAL HELD FOR NELLIE THOMAS, 82

Funeral services were held Monday at St. John LDS Ward for Mrs. Nellie Deschamps Thomas, age 82, who died September 5, 1969 at Oneida Hospital.

Bishop James Madson officiated. Prayer at the funeral home was offered by Clifton Yearsley, the invocation by Mitchell Deschamps and the benediction by Dr. L. Mitchell Jones. Speakers were Bishop Melvin Yearsley, Bishop Madson and Florence Goddard, who gave a life sketch. Jenkin L. Palmer sang a solo and Miriel Dredge, Wanda Edwards and Helen Jones, a trio, accompanied by Myra Jean John. Prelude and postlude music was played by Lysle Deschamps.

At St. John Cemetery, Evan E. Jones offered the dedicatory prayer. Casket bearers were Dale Thomas, D.R. Jones, Ferris Hess, Evan G. Jones, Ray Deschamps and Rene Deschamps. Interment was directed by Benson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thomas was born here December 8, 1886 to Louis and Ann Stephens Deschamps.

She was married to David Morris Thomas here April 21, 1909.

Educated in the St. John schools and graduate of Logan University, she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her husband, St. John; three sons, Lowell Thomas, Mission Hills, CA; Morris Thomas, Jr., Malad, and D.S. Thomas, Fernandina Beach, FL; a daughter, Mrs. Clifton (Erma) Yearsley, Driggs; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Carl (Rachel) Illum, Salt Lake City.
