Nathaniel Reese ‘Nat’ Jones
Nathaniel Reese “Nat” Jones, age 74, of Idaho Falls, died May 11, 1994 at an Idaho Falls Care Center.

He was born in the family log cabin with sod roof on May 8, 1920, at Malad City, Idaho, the son of Reese Vincent Jones and Mary Anne Kent Jones. He graduated from Malad High Scholl in 1939 before entering Idaho State College. Nat completely rebuilt a locomotive on the ISU Campus with Dr. Lillibridge, Professor of Engineering. The finished engine was displayed on the ISU Quad until it was melted down for ammunition in World War II.

Nat entered the army in 1942 and met Adele M Staszko at Coney Island while he was at Fort Mammoth, Red Bank, N.J. Tonsillitis kept him from departing with his unit from Fort Mammoth. “The ship was sunk and most on board were lost.” He subsequently shipped out to the Orient where he served in the Army Signal Corps as a radio technician at various US Army Air Force bases in China and India between 1942 and 1945. He was assigned to teach the Chinese to repair radios and they taught him Mandarin Chinese.

Upon discharge from the service, Nat returned to Malad to work the family ranch. He and Adele were married in Pocatello on March 17, 1946. They moved back east where Nat worked as an assembly line foreman for AT&T in Garfield, New Jersey. In 1950 they moved to Nampa, Idaho, where he worked as manager of Montgomery Ward’s service department. They moved to Idaho Falls, where he worked as a station engineer for KID radio and TV and KIFI radio. In 1952 Nat joined the national effort to make electricity “too cheap to meter” at the National Reactor Testing Station where he worked in the instrument and radio alarm shop. Through the years he worked as a technical writer at the various INEL stations, including CFA, TAN-SPERT, CPP, and the TAN-LOFT. He retired from Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in 1984.

Throughout his life he always volunteered his time. For 16 years he served as an assistant troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America with the 15th Ward Troop and later with Explorer Troop 342 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. More recently her [sic] worked for 9 years as a soup kitchen volunteer at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Nat enjoyed working on his Deep Creek Ranch near Malad, camping, fishing, Old Time Fiddle Music, computers, travel, genealogy, and of course tinkering with gizmos.

Surviving are his wife, Adele M. Jones, Idaho Falls; sons, David Reese Jones, Kent, Wash., Dr. Robert Nathaniel Jones, Salt Lake City, Ut, Steven Kent Jones, Las Vegas, NV., Allan Thomas Jones, Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughters Teresa Adele Jones Santa Rosa, CA., one sister Rachel Leigh of Idaho Falls and one granddaughter, Angie Eileen O’Shea of Pocatello, Idaho.
