Miriam Clarice Selman Thompson Wise, 91, died August 28, 1997 at the Brigham City Community Hospital from complications following surgery. She was born in Ogden, Utah on February 22, 1906, the daughter of John Mark and Ruth Wheelwright Selman. She has lived in Ogden, Farr West, Elwood, and Logan for 66 years in Corinne.
Miriam married Eugene Thompson on January 13, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They owned and operated their farm in East Corinne together until his death on September 18, 1986. She married Wallace Wise on April 14, 1993 at Preston, Idaho.
She received her education in Tremonton and Logan, where she attended the BYC for two years. Miriam had worked as a substitute school teacher for the Box Elder School District. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She was a member of the River Ward of the LDS Church in Brigham City. She had served faithfully in many music callings as director of the Singing Mother’s and in various teaching and leadership positions.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace, four children: Thelma (Glenn) Manning, Garland; Carol (DeVerl) Barker, East Corinne; Grant L. Thompson, Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Kathryn (Gary) Hill, Malad, Idaho; 17 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren (to whom she was known as (Grandma Cream Cone”). She is also survived by one step-daughter, Norma Joan (LeRoy) Firth, Bothwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Corinne Chapel 2335 North 4000 West Corinne. Friends may call at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Wednesday, September 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9:30 to 10:40 at the Corinne LDS Church.
Interment Brigham City Cemetery.
