Three Utah State Students Killed In Car Crash
Three Utah State University students died and a fourth was seriously injured Friday at 5:40 p.m. when their car went out of control and smashed into a guard rail in Logan Canyon.
Two Idaho youths died instantly in the crash. A Utah student succumbed Saturday morning of massive head and chest injuries.
Killed were Edward Ray Scott, 20, son of Edward L. Scott, Malad; Terrell B. Jones, 20, Blackfoot, son of Mrs. Ruth Wadsworth, Idaho Falls; Michael Harrison, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Harrison of Tremonton and former Malad residents.
In a Logan hospital with severe head injuries is Von Elcock, Malad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Elcock and husband of the former Annette Davis, Malad.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Leonard Jeppsen said the west bound car, driven by Mr. Harrison went out of control, crossed the highway and smashed into the guard rail. The car came to rest 73 feet away, the trooper said. He blamed excessive speed for the accident on U.S. Highway 89 five miles east of Logan.

Funeral Tuesday for Micheal N. Harrison
Bishop Max King officiated Tuesday afternoon at funeral services conducted for Micheal N. Harrison, 20, who died Saturday morning of injuries sustained in a car accident the previous evening in Logan Canyon on Highway 89.
Family prayer at the home was offered by Oliver E. Williams. At the Chapel, prelude music was by Julie Wight; invocation, Thomas E. Howell; obituary and remarks, Gordon Crowther; poem, Mary Louise Peden; vocal, Ferris Neal, Leon John and Marvin John with Gail Neal as accompanist; talk, M. Joe Davis; remarks, Bishop King; benediction, Max Adams; postlude music, Linda Williams.
Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery where the dedicatory prayer was offered by Chester P. Neal. Flowers were carried by cousins of Mr. Harrison and the casket bearers were Dale Anderson, Farrell Christoffersen, Clinton Harris, Ralph Jenson, Tommy Jenson, Lonnie Thorpe, LaMont Willie and Gary Wight.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home of Malad.
Mr. Harrison was born Oct. 28, 1944, a son of Cecil L. and Nola Howell Harrison. He attended the Malad schools and was a graduate of Bear River High School in Tremonton. He was a freshman at Utah State University. He had worked in Salt Lake City before enrolling at Utah State.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
Survivors include his parents of Tremonton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Harrison, Malad; one brother, Lamont Harrison, Tremonton.
