Three Utah State Students Killed In Car Crash
Three Utah State University students died and a fourth was seriously injured Friday at 5:40 p.m. when their car went out of control and smashed into a guard rail in Logan Canyon.
Two Idaho youths died instantly in the crash. A Utah student succumbed Saturday morning of massive head and chest injuries.
Killed were Edward Ray Scott, 20, son of Edward L. Scott, Malad; Terrell B. Jones, 20, Blackfoot, son of Mrs. Ruth Wadsworth, Idaho Falls; Michael Harrison, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Harrison of Tremonton and former Malad residents.
In a Logan hospital with severe head injuries is Von Elcock, Malad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Elcock and husband of the former Annette Davis, Malad.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Leonard Jeppsen said the west bound car, driven by Mr. Harrison went out of control, crossed the highway and smashed into the guard rail. The car came to rest 73 feet away, the trooper said. He blamed excessive speed for the accident on U.S. Highway 89 five miles east of Logan.

Services Held For Edward Ray Scott

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Malad for Edward Ray Scott, 20, who died Friday at Logan on injuries sustained in a one-car crash on Highway 89 in Logan Canyon.

Officiating at the services held at the Malad LDS Stake Chapel was the Rev. Gale V. Ludwig of the First United Presbyterian Church of Malad.

Following family prayer at the home, services at the Chapel included prelude music and opening scripture; invocation, Bishop J. Arthur Servoss; vocal, Helen E. Jones; reading from the Psalms; talk, Melvin Joe Davis; vocal, Jenkin L. Palmer; New Testament reading, sermon, prayer, benediction and postlude music. Mrs. Betty H. Crowther was organist.

Committal service was at the Malad City Cemetery with flowers carried by friends. Bearers were Dale Anderson, Farrell Christoffersen, David P. Evans, Jr., Ralph Hanson, Dale Hawkins, Ralph Jenson, Ricky Servoss and LaMont Willie.

Benson Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Scott, a sophomore at Utah State University, Logan, was born at Salt Lake City, Aug. 10, 1044,(1944) the son of Edward L. and the late Jessie Lorraine Ray Scott, His mother died April 12, 1958.

A graduate of Malad High School, he was a member of the “M” Club and of the student council. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Malad, he was affiliated with Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Utah State University.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Pocatello; an aunt, Lucille Stephens of Malad with whom he made his home; a sister, Lorrie Lorraine Scott, Malad; grandmother, Mrs. Mary Steffan, Price, Utah; two stepbrothers, a stepsister, two other aunts and two uncles.
