Services Monday For Mrs. Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Melissa Ann Parker Smith, 89, who died Friday at her home, were held in the Malad Fourth Ward LDS chapel Monday with Bishop Arthur Servoss officiating.

The speakers were Bishop Arthur Servoss, Pres. Colen H. Sweeten, Sr., Lynn S. Richards, Pres. Moyle E. Facer; invocation, Pres. Thomas W. Richards; benediction, Reed M. Smith; vocal solos, June Crowther and Leora Brown; organ prelude and postlude, Betty H. Crowther.

The flower carriers were the granddaughters of Mrs. Smith with the Fourth Ward Relief Society supervising.

Casket bearers were Mac Smith, David Smith, Rex Smith, Stephen Smith, Allen Wight and Keith Wight.

Burial was in the Holbrook cemetery directed by the Benson Funeral Home. The dedicatory prayer was by Bishop Waldo Blaisdell.

Mrs. Smith was born October 31, 1872 at Panguich, Utah, a daughter of William Hamilton and Sarah Allen Packer.

She was married to Willard Richards Smith Sept. 14, 1892 in the Logan Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Smith died July 29, 1951.

She received her education in Southern Utah and Arizona. After marriage they homesteaded in Holbrook and moved to Malad in 1951.

Being an active member of the L.D.S. Church, she was past president of the Holbrook Relief Society, officer in the Young Women’s Mutual Improvement Association and an officer in stake and ward genealogy.

Survivors include six sons and four daughters;

Willard R. Smith, Joel A. Smith, Karl M. Smith, all of Holbrook; J. Brian Smith, Jackson., Montana; Lot Smith, Mackay; Stephen L. Smith, Mrs. George R. (Maud) Burton, Sarah Alice Smith, all of Malad; Mrs. Joseph D. (Nan) Bennett, Mrs. W. Ray (Velma) Wight, both of Ogden; 38 grandchildren and 70 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alice Foutz, Ogden.
