THOMAS, MATHEW GARRY, May 14, 1974 – November 18, 2004

POCATELLO – On November 18, 2004, Mathew Garry Thomas, 30, returned home to his Heavenly Father due to an accident at his earthly home.

He was born on his grandfather’s birthday, May 14, 1974 in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Garry Lee and Rosemary Hill Thomas. His family moved to the Tyhee area shortly after his first birthday, and he grew up there. He was the second child and the only boy in a family with four sisters whom he loved, protected and teased: Jullie Lynn, Karianne, Shannon Eileen and Katryn Lynn.

Mat attended Tyhee Elementary, Hawthorne Jr. High and Highland High School where he was active in choir and graduated in 1992. He was a four year seminary graduate and earned his Eagle Scout. He attended Ricks College and ISU. He was currently working at Snake River Livestock Co, where he was able to work with animals, to work with his hands and to work outside, all things that he loved doing.

Mat loved music, playing games and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed shooting hoops, playing soccer, baseball and volleyball. He loved to go camping and fishing, especially when he could skunk his Dad, who was his best friend. He had an infectious laugh and a smile that could brighten any heart. Mat was a wonderful son, brother and friend who was always willing to help anyone. He had the special ability to always turn the other cheek and never hold a grudge. Mat’s kindness always made friends and strangers feel loved and at ease.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mat served a mission for the church in San Diego, CA. He especially enjoyed his opportunity there to serve as a guide at the dedication of the San Diego Temple, and his work among the Indian people in Arizona. Mat has always been a faithful home teacher and was currently serving as a home teaching supervisor.

Mat is survived by his father and mother, sisters, Jullie (Bob) McBratney, Ogden, UT; Karianne, Pocatello, ID; Shannon, Logan, UT; Katy (Scott) Morley, Logan, UT; grandmothers, Ann Thomas, Karine Hill, Malad; nephew, Spencer Scott Morley, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Wayne Morgan Thomas and David Mathew Hill; and an uncle, Robert Wayne Thomas.

Funeral services will be held November 23, 2004 at the Tyhee 37th Ward LDS Chapel in Pocatello, ID. Interment will follow services in the Malad City Cemetery.
