SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR MARY PIERCE THOMAS

Mary Pierce Thomas, 88, died September 7, 1978 in the Oneida County Nursing Home.

She ws born on October 27, 1889 at St. John to Thomas and Nettie Morgan Pierce. She married David Price Thomas on February 24, 1909 at St. John. That marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on January 13, 1956. He died February 4, 1954.

She had been a lifetime resident of the Malad Valley and was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Relief Society secretary for many years and as a visiting teacher. She belonged to the Native Daughters of the Idaho Pioneers, Station 4, and was also a member of the Oneida County War Mothers and was a Gold Star Mother.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters: Thomas M. Thomas, Soda Springs; Boyd Thomas, Malad; Mrs. Phenoi J. (Ruth) Deschamps, Murray; Mrs. Joseph A. (Lenna) Davis, Malad and Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Keene, Bountiful; 33 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother and sister, Evan M. Pierce, Idaho Falls and Mrs. Margaret Camp, Malad.

Funeral services were held September 11th in the malad Third LDS Ward with Bishop Garth Sweeten officiating.

At the Benson Funeral Home, the family prayer was offered by Keith Bolingbroke and the program at the chapel included: Mary E. Williams, prelude, postlude music; invocation, Boyd J. Thomas; life sketch, Mary Kaye; vocal solo, Helen E. Jones, accompanied by Marie Jones.

Concluding rites were held at the Malad City Cemetery, where Bishop G. Victor Clarkson gave the dedicatory prayer. Flower arrangements were cared for by members of the Third Ward Relief Society, June Ward, president.

Casket bearers: Kelly Bolingbroke, Gordon Deschamps, Dennis Thomas, Griff Davis, James Davis, Brent Blaisdell.
