Funeral Monday for Mrs. Mary Atkinson

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary S. Atkinson, 78, who died Wednesday night, (11 Jun 1952) at Los Angeles, Calif. were conducted in the Malad Second ward chapel 1 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Atkinson was visiting at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Arlene Burnett, in California at the time of her death.

Counselor Ralph Harding was in charge of the services. The speakers were John E. Blaisdell, Thos. W. Richards and Joseph M. Isaacson. Prayer at the home was by Bishop A. G. Willie; opening prayer, President Moyle Facer; benediction, President S. A. Hendricks. Mrs. Emma Ward played the prelude and postlude and accompanied the musical numbers which were: violin solo, Harold Felt of Brigham City; quartet Joseph, Moroni, Golden and George Ward; duet June and Gwen Ward.

The dedicatory prayer was by Arthur J. Burnett.

Services at the Ogden Aultorest Memorial Park cemetery were: remarks, Ralph Harding; piano solo, Irene Atkinson; vocal solo, Curtis Burnett, accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Arthur Burnett.

She was born at Mendon, Utah, Dec. 18, 1873 at Mendon, Utah the daughter of Robert and Amanda Hagle Sweeten, Utah pioneers of 1857. On August 23, 1899 she was married to Melvin Atkinson in the Logan LDS Temple. With her husband Mrs. Atkinson was a pioneer of Curlew Valley in Oneida County. She attended BYU College at Logan and was active in Primary work and the Relief Society of the LDS Church. Her husband died at Ogden in March, 1940.

Survivors include two daughters and one son, Mrs. Arlene Burnett, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Fern Willie and M. S. Atkinson, both of Malad; three brothers and two sisters, Robert Sweeten and G. G. Sweeten, Salt Lake City; Colen H. Sweeten, Malad; Mrs. Iduma Cragun and Mrs. Chloe Sheriff, both of Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Burial was at the Aultorest Memorial Park cemetery in Ogden and short services were also conducted at the Ogden Mausoleum.
