Mary Evelyn Richardson Nichols, 83, passed away Saturday, March 1, 1997 at the Ogden Care Center North.
She was born April 30, 1913 in Malad, Idaho, a daughter of George Stuart and Elizabeth Evans Richardson. She was raised and educated in Brigham City and Levan, Utah.
She married Delos Nichols on September 23, 1931 in Brigham City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He died June 12, 1940. She married F. Hartman Hansen and they were later divorced. She then married Ray B. Ferrin and they were later divorced.
Mary worked several summers at Ross’ Cannery in Brigham City in a variety of capacities. She worked during WW11 at the arsenal assembling bullets. She was a meat wrapper at American Foods and Mayfair for 17 years, and later worked in supply at H.A.F.B. for 10 years as an expediter.
Mary started singing in public at age 10 for service organizations such as the Eagles. Nobody could out-run or out-throw her – she was quite an athlete. She was a gardener noted for her roses.
As a member of the Ogden28th LDS Ward she did research and temple work for many ancestors. She held callings in Primary, on the Genealogy Committee, as Sunday School Secretary and as a Visiting Teacher.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria N. (William) Simpson, Centerville; six sisters, Carma Stuck, Oregon; Lavina (Lee) Zinck, Willard; Adele (Robert) Krumperman, Ogden; Bonnie Taylor, Ogden; Carol Cook, Willard; and Shirley (Lewis) Panunzio, Tooele; three brothers, Boyce (Mary) Richardson, Grantsville; Thomas (Wilma) Craghead, San Diego, Calif; and Eugene Craghead, Mass; eight grandchildren: Brian (Tanya) Simpson, Farmington; Dex (Christy) Zapien, Bennion; Dana (Ward) Severts, Hawaii; Leslie (Jeff) Owen, Kaysville; Lori( Steve) Schmitz, Wickenburg, Ariz; Scott Simpson, Los Angeles, Calif; Shane Zapien and Stephanie (Frank) Gillien both of Salt Lake City; and 14 great grandchildren: Brandi and Steve Schmitz; Cameron; Grant, Gunnar and Annika Severts; Kallee and Cassie Simpson, Travis and Justen Zapien; Coby and Marissa Gillen; and Mitchel and Davis Owen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son, one daughter Marjorie Zapien, and one sister, Grace Lowe.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
