MARY ETTA LAMBERT LAUB

Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary Etta Lambert Laub, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2012.

Mary was born July 22, 1923 in Guntersville, AL. She was the seventh of nine children, born to William E. and Fannie Ella Edwards Lambert. She also had two half brothers.

Mary’s father died at 37 years of age of pneumonia when she was four years old. Her mother couldn’t take care of all of the children, so they were farmed out to distant relatives and friends. She ended up in California where she attended Escondido High School. Mary worked a short time for the police department, and as a telephone operator. It was at this time that she met Don Laub, they dated for several months and on December 10, 1945 they were married in Yuma, AZ and shared 66 great years together. They moved to Burley, ID, where they had their first two sons, Jeff and mark. They later moved to Logan, UT where Don attended USU. They then moved to Salt Lake City, UT where Don attended the University of Utah. Their third son, Dave, was born there. They then moved to Bountiful where they had their fourth son, Bill. They spent about 15 years until moving to Casper, WY, then Denver, CO and finally retiring in Garland, UT next to the 1st green on the Belmont Springs golf course. Mary and Don golfed almost every day when the weather was good. Mary knew all of the regular golfers there and had a nick-name for almost all of them. She would sit on their deck facing the green and greet the golfers as they passed. They would all say hi and if no one was behind them, they would come over to visit for a minute of two before heading down the fairway.

A time full of great memories for the family was in the late 1950s and early 60s when the family spent the summers in Stanley, ID, camped next to the Salmon River. This is the place where mary said she slept the best, listening to the river gently flowing by. We hope she has now found that same peaceful sleep.

Mary loved all of her sons very much and would defend them fiercely if anyone dared harm them in any way. Our mom was a very gentle woman; a devoted and loving mother and wife. She was always a positive and cheerful soul with her blue eyes twinkling every time she smiled. Everyone that knew her loved her.

We love you mom, and we will miss you very much. Special thanks to the care givers at Primrose Hospice and Lydia martin for all of the loving care they gave to our mother in her last days. It was a great comfort to us all.

Mary is survived by her four sons, Jeffery Carl (Carole) Laub of Casper, WY; Mark Clifford (Jennie) Laub of West Point, UT; David Rex Laub of Malad, ID; William Donald (Jane) Laub of Willard, UT; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Laub.

Graveside services will be held March 2, 2012 in the Fielding Cemetery.
