LAWS, THOMAS LeROY, January 16, 1923 – March 1, 2008

Thomas LeRoy Laws, 85, longtime resident of Malad, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2008 surrounded by loving family members.

He was born January 16, 1923 to Joseph W. and Effie May Call Laws in Blackfoot, Idaho. He grew up in Malad and graduated from Malad High School. He was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work. He married his high school sweetheart, Lucille Smith, on June 7, 1944 in the Salt lake LDS Temple.

His first career was as a chauffeur for the Naval Base in Ogden, Utah. At the end of WWII he returned to farming, first in Malad, then Burley, Idaho, and back to Malad until retiring. He was admired throughout Malad Valley for his exceptional farming skills and ability to fix anything that broke. He valued being truthful and could always be trusted.

His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren We will continue to look up to him and will always be grateful for his good example.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as dance director with his wife for many years and building one of the best Cub Scout Pinewood Derby tracks that Malad has ever had. His gender spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille of malad; two brothers, Douglas W. (Verna) Laws, and Irvin C. (Thelda) Laws, Layton, Utah; sister, Marjorie May (Donald) Vaughan, Malad; children; Linda (Vard) Williams, Boise, ID; Tonya Buckley, Logan, UT; Lorri K. Scott, Pocatello, ID; Thomas L. (Brenda) Laws, Jr., Boise, ID; and Jana L. (Doug) Hansen, Smithfield, UT; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph W. Laws II and John G. Laws; sisters, Faye E. Edwards and Ruby J. Bodily, and a daughter, Suzanne LaRay Evans.

Funeral services were held March 4 in the Malad LDS 5th Ward Chapel.
