Margaret Thomas Evans

EVANS, MARGARET THOMAS, February 11, 1890 – December 10, 1980

Margaret Thomas Evans, 90, pioneer and lifetime resident of the Malad area, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 10 in the Oneida County Hospital.

She was born Feb. 11, 1890 at St. John, to Thomas S. and Emma Merle Peterson Thomas. She grew up and attended school in St. John and she later attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, UT.

Upon returning to Malad, she began work at the Evans Co-op Department Store. She married David L. Evans July 30, 1913 in St. John. He died August 2, 1977.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoyed cooking and sewing and embroidery work. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was past matron. She belonged to two of the oldest clubs in Malad, the Kensington Club and the Clio Club. She was also a member of the Oneida County War Mothers.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter: Rolant T. Evans, Carmel, CA; Gov. John V. Evans, Boise, ID; Donald S. Evans, Malad; Mariemma Evans, Malad; one brother and three sisters: Evan Thomas, Provo; Mrs. Melba Jones, Malad; Mrs. Ellarene Price, Provo, UT; Mrs. Merle Jones, Pocatello; 12 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, four brothers and one sister.

Services were held December 13 in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
