FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR LYLE TAPPER

Lyle G. Tapper, 81, Malad, died June 23, 1979 at the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born February 25, 1898 at Manona, Iowa, to William J. and Carrie Gilbert Tapper. He married Sara D. Jones, December 20, 1924 in Moscow, ID. Mrs. Tapper died February 21, 1975.

He attended school in Chicago, was a graduate of the University of Idaho in education, and was selected to the All Pacific Coast Football team while attending U of I. He was a Malad High School football and basketball coach for four years, and had been in the automobile business until his retirement.

Mr. Taper was a veteran of World War I, in the US Navy. He was a charter member of the Malad Veterans of World War I, charter member and commander of the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65; Idaho State American Legion Sixth District commander; served as chairman of the Oneida County draft board during World War II; a member of the Malad Masonic Lodge No. 51, AF&AM; ;a 32nd degree mason of the A&A Scotish Rite of Free masonry; a member of Shriners ElKorah Temple, a charter member of the FOE; a charter member of the Alpha Tau Omega of U of I, and was Chief of the Malad Fire Department.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son and a daughter, Lyle Gilbert Tapper, Jr., Montpelier, and Mrs. Ren (Sally) Thomson, Malad; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and two brothers, Thomas Tapper, Grants, NM, and Robert Tapper, Hendersonville, NC.

Funeral services were held June 18th in the Malad Stake LDS Chapel, with the Rev. S. Norman Naugler officiating. Prelude and postlude music was played by Myra Jean John; invocation, Rev. Naugler; vocal, Max Haddock; scripture reading, Rev. Naugler; tribute, Seth Thomas and benediction by Rev. Naugler.

Concluding rites were held in the Malad City Cemetery with Todd Tapper, Ted Tapper, Craig Thomson, Marc Thomson, Eric Thomson and Jeffrey Jones as casket bearers. Masonic rites were performed by the Malad Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 51 with Committal Service by Rev. Naugler Military rites performed by American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.
