Former Resident Of Oneida County Dies At Pocatello

Luther Blaine Sasser, 77, former Oneida County resident who has lived in Bingham County since 1939, died Friday night at St. Anthony Hospital in Pocatello.

Mr. Sasser was born Nov. 9, 1885, in Pikeville, N. C. to Eli and Ava Bunn Sasser. He moved to Garland, Utah in 1903.

He married Helena Martha Michaelis Sept. 19, 1906 in the Logan LDS Temple. They moved to Holbrook in 1909 and to Pingree in 1939. Mrs. Sasser died in December, 1956.

Mr. Sasser was a High Priest in the LDS Church and had served as president of an elder’s quorum, superintendent of the YMMIA in Holbrook and was chairman of genealogy in the Pingree Ward, and a ward teacher. He was chairman of the cemetery board at Riverside, and a member of the Farm Bureau and had served as county chairman of rodent control.

He is survived by four sons and five daughters: Robert G., Blackfoot; Luther B. Jr., Milton M. and Delone, all of Pingree; Mrs. Nellie Gleed, Malad; Mrs. Ethel Hawkins, Murray, Utah; Mrs. Fern Williams, Beaver, Utah; Mrs. Beth Valentine, Downey, and Mrs. Delphia Heer, Pocatello. There are 37 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Hunsaker, Honeyville, Utah.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Pingree LDS Chapel with Bishop Lorenzo Caldwell officiating.

Burial was in the Garland, Utah cemetery.
