Loren Peck dies of apparent heart attack

Loren Lee Peck, 62, Malad, died Thursday evening, June 26, [1980] at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He was born June 14, 1918, in Malad to Loren Leigh and Susanna Price Peck. He was a graduate of Malad High School, and attended Idaho State College where he was active in football.

On Jan. 25, 1939, he married Opal Petersen in Malad. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 17, 1958. She died June 9, 1967. He married Annis[sic] Mansfield in 1968, and they were later divorced. He married Norma Eyre Champneys[sic] Nov. 12, 1972.

He operated a farm until entering the Navy during World War II. He worked for Jones Chevrolet in Malad for several years, and later purchased a service station and bulk plant which he operated for many years. For the past five years, he had worked in Tucson, Ariz., and in Idaho as a video engineer and parimutuel[sic] race calculator.

He was a Seventy in the LDS church, and held various positions including superintendent of the ward Sunday School. He served as chief of the Malad volunteer fire department, had been a member of Elks and Eagles, and was a member of Ernest W. Jones Post 65, American Legion.

Survivors include his widow of Malad; a son, Gary Peck, Salt Lake City; a daughter, Mrs. Wells (Marsha) Willie, Holbrook; a stepson, Rex U. Champneys[sic], Twin Falls; a stepdaughter, Mrs. George (Christine) Holt, Fort Dyce, Ark.; a stepmother, Mrs. Bertha Peck, Stockton, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Deli Peck Owens, Ogden, Utah; three brothers, Boyd Peck, Reno, Nev., Sam Peck, Lodi, Calif., and Fred Peck, Santa Cruz, Calif.; a half-brother, Richard Peck, and a half-sister, Katherine Marie Peck, both of Stockton, Calif.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, at the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Wesley Crowther officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery with military rites.
