PLEASANT VIEW – Leland William Rhees, 91, died on Wednesday, January 17, 1990, in an Ogden nursing home of causes incident to age.

He was born on July 18, 1898, in Pleasant View, a son of Charles Herbert and Eliza Parratt Rhees.

On November 1, 1923, he married Leona Holmes in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was educated in the Weber Co. School System. He graduated from Weber Academy and Utah State University where he pursued his post graduate studies. He also did graduate work at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.

He was an educator in the Weber School System for 40 years serving in various capacities as teacher, assistant principal, principal and the last 13 years as a boys’ counselor. He also pursued farming interests which included fruit growing and the raising of livestock. Several of his Arabian horses were sold nationally.

He was a high priest in the Pleasant View First Ward and served in various church capacities throughout his lifetime. He served an LDS mission in the Southern States from 1917 to 1919.

For many years he served on the Old Folks Committee providing activities for senior citizens at the Lorin Farr Park. He was also active in local development of the Pleasant View Community.

Leland was a lifelong resident of Pleasant View with the exception of a brief period after he was newly married.

Surviving are his wife of Pleasant View, one son and one daughter, Roland J. (Bud) Rhees, North Ogden; Mrs. Harry E. (Marilyn) Woodbury, Pleasant View; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jay H. Rhees, and one daughter, Alta May.

Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View First Ward Chapel with Bishop Kent G. Cragun officiating. The family will meet friends at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 845 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Interment in North Ogden Cemetery.
