Black Pine Pioneer Dies Saturday

Lars Anderson, 89, Snowville, Utah, died Saturday morning, December 17, 1966, at the Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah.

Mr. Anderson was born at Mora Noret, Kopperberg, Sweden, August 23, 1877, to Anna Hanson and Hans Anderson. He came to America with his family when he was 14 years of age. The family settled at Lund, Idaho.

Mr. Anderson returned to Sweden on a mission for the L.D.S. Church. While there he met Thelkla V. Stromberg, who later immigrated to America with her family and on August 1 0, 1910, was married to Lars Anderson in the Salt Lake Temple.

The couple lived at Lund, Heyburn, Idaho, and Huntsville, Utah before finally homesteading at Black Pine, Idaho, where they worked hard and also spent much time serving in positions in the church. Lars Anderson was presiding Elder of the Black Pine branch and later served for eight years as bishop of the Black Pine Ward. He also served as ward teacher and in other offices at Blackpine and Snowville, where they moved when every family left Black Pine about 20 years ago.

Mrs. Anderson died March 5, 1966.

He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Lars Victor Anderson, Mrs. Merlin (Ruth) Robbins, Stone; Elmer J. Anderson, Snowville; Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Jensen, Rupert; Mrs. Don (Thelma) Higley, Arvid Anderson, Kearns, Utah and Mrs. Albert (Bonnie) Winsor, Idaho Falls; two brothers, Ole Anderson, Rupert; Carl Anderson, McCammon; 37 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Curlew Chapel Tuesday Dec. 20, 1966, for Lars Anderson, age 89, who died Dec. 17th. Bishop Blaine Hickman officiated.

Family prayer was offered by Robbie Higley and the invocation by Gene Jensen. Obituary was given by Allen Anderson. Vocal solos were sung by Ed Davidson, Eldon Chandler and Wynn Anderson, and a duet by Jay and Doyle Cutler, Coleen Lofeen gave a reading. Speakers were Pres. Earl Stokes, Pres. Harvey Wight, Bishop Harvey Harris and Bishop Blaine Hickman. A musical reading and tribute on tape by Bonnie Winsor and Thelma Higley was played. Kenneth Anderson offered the benediction. Prelude and postlude music and accompaniments were played by Rennis Larkin.

John Robbins offered the dedicatory prayer at the Snowville Cemetery where Rogers Mortuary directed interment.

Granddaughters carried the floral arrangements. Following grandsons, Barry Anderson, Royce Jensen, Fay Anderson, Milton Robbins, Brian Anderson, Dale Robbins, Delwyn Jensen and Deon Jensen acted as casket bearers with other grandsons as honorary bearers.
