JOSEPH A. JONES

Malad, Idaho – Joseph A. Jones, 83, died at the Oneida Hospital Wednesday night following a short illness.

Mr. Jones was born April 19, 1871, at Willard, Utah, a son of John D. and Sarah Jones. He was married to Ann Nancy Jones, Oct. 25, 1899, in Salt Lake LDS Temple. They marked their 50th wedding anniversary in 1949.

Mr. Jones was an active LDS Church member throughout his life, having held the following positions: Superintendent of the Cherry Creek Sunday School at the age of 17; superintendent of the YMMIA; bishop of the Cherry Creek Ward nine years; high councilman in Malad Stake for 19 ½ years. Coming from a family of musicians, Mr. Jones participated in the field of music throughout his life.

Surviving are his wife and seven sons and daughters: Mrs. Sarah Beeton, J. Clifford Jones, Malad; Dr. Lewis W. Jones, Logan, Utah; Merlin H. Jones, Pocatello, Idaho; Mrs. Mark Roylance, Mrs. Katherine Aylworth, Salt Lake City; Dr. Daniel L. Jones, Chicago; 20 grandchildren. Seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Esther Mifflin, Malad; one brother, Hyrum J. Jones, Ogden.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Malad Second Ward with Bishop Morgan W. Harris of the Cherry Creek Ward in charge. Interment will be in the Cherry Creek cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call at the Benson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of services tomorrow.
