BLACKFOOT – John Lincoln Owens, 88, a longtime resident of the Blackfoot area, died April 13, 1992, at his home.

He was born July 2, 1903, at Malad, to Edward Thomas and Ellen Eliza Peabody Owens. His father died when he was 12. He attended schools at Malad and worked as a shoeshine boy to help support his family. He moved to Blackfoot as a teenager and worked as a custodian at the Elks Club and for the Blackfoot School District, as a warehouse worker, and in farming.

On July 1, 1938, he married Elva Larsen at Blackfoot. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple Aug. 1, 1939. He had been in failing health since being struck by a train 12 years ago.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and served as a stake missionary. He enjoyed collecting guns and old toys.

Survivors include his wife of Blackfoot; children, Dennis Pat Owens of Nevada, James Boyd Owens of Kennewick, Wash., Perry Gene Owens of Burley, and Mrs. Larry (Adele) Jensen of Blackfoot; two sisters, Pauline Wixom and Mrs. Carl (Blanche) Beebe, both of Blackfoot; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, three brothers, four sisters, a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Blackfoot LDS 4th Ward, 585 N. Shilling Ave., with Bishop Leslie Cook officiating. The family will meet with friends Thursday for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Groveland Cemetery under the direction of Packham Mortuary in Blackfoot.
