John LeRoy Evans

EVANS, JOHN LeROY, November 29, 1900 – January 17, 1974

John LeRoy Evans passed away January 17, 1974 at the Bannock Memorial Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho. Mr. Evans was born November 29, 1900 at Malad City, a son of Benjamin W. and Gwenllian Jones Evans.

He married Mattie Peterson, Dec. 11, 1921 at Malad City; the marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on June 19, 1930.

Mr. Evans was a graduate of Hielde Electronic School, San Francisco, CA; was a member of Modern Woodmen of America and was a high priest in Malad Second LDS Ward.

Surviving are his widow, Malad; a son, Thomas LeRoy, Salt Lake City; two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Elaine) Davies, Bountiful; Mrs. Gordon (Myrtle) Durday, Long Beach, CA; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Curtis (Catherine) Thomas, Malad.

Bishop Gordon Crowther officiated at the funeral services. Speakers were pres. S.A. Hendricks and Bishop Crowther, who read the obituary. Family prayer was offered by LeRoy Evans; invocation, W.L. Baker; benediction, Warren Bush. Dr. Gerald Goodenough and Mrs. Barbara Call sang solos, accompanied by Kathleen Burton and Myra Jean John. Mrs. John also played prelude and postlude music.

At the Malad City Cemetery, Wayne Kent offered the dedicatory prayer. Honorary bearers were members of High Priest Quorum and casket bearers were Lynn Alder, John Nielsen, Bud John, Jim Evans, Oren Jones and Hubert Gleed.
