John Kunio Tanaka, (1924)

JOHN KUNIO TANAKA

HONEYWELL – John Kunio Tanaka, 86, passed away on January 18, 2011 at Willow Glen Care Center in Brigham City, Utah.

John was born in Garland, Utah on February 13, 1924, a son of Hiyakutaro and Asano Kajitani Tanaka. He went to Garland and Honeyville Elementary, and graduated from Box Elder High School. John lived in Garland until the age of nine, then his family moved to Honeyville where he lived the rest of his life. He served his country in the Army in WWII.

John married Marjorie Dee Miller on March 24, 1973 in Elko, NV.

He was a great baseball player in his youth. John excelled in all sports except golf. He was an exceptional bowler in the Tremonton league. Farming was a big part of his life. In his retired years, he enjoyed driving around looking at local farms. His second home was JC’s Diner where he would associate with all his friends.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, Honeyville; children: David (Nancy) McKellar, Plain City; Brian (Marla) McKellar, Roy; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: Russell (Mitzi) Tanaka, Oregon; Katsuko Sally Mann, Malad; Lilly Kawamura, Pocatello; Namiko (Jim) Ishii, Honeyville; sister-in-law, JoAnne Tanaka, Honeyville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dan Tanaka.

Funeral services will be January 22, 2011 at Myers Mortuary, Brigham City, UT. Interment will be in the Honeyville Cemetery.
