EVANS, JOHN J., October 3, 1868 – March 13, 1943
Funeral services for John J. Evans, 74, who died at the family residence Saturday evening, were held at the Malad Second Ward LDS Church Wednesday afternoon with Bishop W.W. Thomas in charge. Burial was in the Malad Cemetery with H.I. Mills dedicating the grave.
Mr. Evans was born at Kidwelley, South Wales, October 3, 1868. He came to Malad with his parents in 1876 and has been a resident of this town since that time. He was married to Miss Mary Ann Adams, December 10, 1890. She died November 13, 1933.
Mr. Evans had taken a very prominent part in the Oneida County civic affairs. He served eight years as auditor and recorder when Oneida County included Franklin and Power counties, four years as probate judge, 26 years as city clerk. He also acted as U.S. land commissioner for a number of years.
John J. Evans was a faithful and active member of the LDS Church.
Mr. Evans is survived by four sons, George A. Evans and Ralph A. Evans of Bingham, Utah; Carl Evans of Samaria, John A. Evans of Malad; four daughters, Misses Pearl Evans and Lottie Evans and Mrs. Joseph Ward, Sr. of Malad, and Mrs. Fred DeClair of San Francisco; two sisters, Mrs. Resse R. Jones of Hollywood, CA and Mrs. Dave Daniels of Arco; three brothers, Hugh J. Williams and Tom J. Evans of Malad.
