John Gomer Evans, 94, a long time Malad resident and active as a contractor and builder here for many years, died April 23, 1956 at Idaho Falls. Funeral services are being held today at Malad.

Mr. Evans was born March 1, 1862 at Brigham City. He came to Malad Valley in 1886 to do carpentry work and on March 18, 1888 he was married to Sarah Ann Jones. She died in 1943.

Until his retirement several years ago, Mr. Evans, as a contractor and builder, erected many business structures and homes in Malad Valley. He was also active in church and civic affairs. He fulfilled two LDS missions, one to the Central States and one to California. He was Bishop of the Malad First Ward from 1914 – 1922 and served one term as Malad City Councilman. He was one of the organizers of the LaGrande hall Co. and was contractor of the building.

For the past few years, Mr. Evans has been making his home in Idaho Falls with his son, Josh.

Surviving are three sons, J.T. Evans, Idaho Falls; Leon Evans, Boise; David D. Evans, Los Angeles; one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Berg, Brigham City; nine grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
