John Clifford Gleed, Jr.

GLEED, JOHN CLIFFORD, JR., November 14, 1981 – July 12, 1973

A former Malad resident, John Clifford Gleed, Jr. was killed July12th in a train accident at Pocatello.

Mr. Gleed was one of four men who died instantly when struck by a freight train near the J.H. Simplot Co. plant at Pocatello. The men were moving ties from one side of the tracks to the other about 1:30 p.m. and apparently did not hear the approaching train because of noise from the Simplot plant and wind in their faces, according to Don Glenn, Power County Sheriff’s Deputy.

A fifth member of the crew was walking along the side of the track and suffered a shattered elbow when grazed by the train.

Mr. Gleed was born Nov. 18, 1941 at Malad to John Clifford and Helen Lamont Gleed. He married Dianne Lynn Womack June 29, 1972 at Blackfoot.

A graduate of Malad High School and a four year graduate of Malad LDS Stake Seminary, Mr. Gleed had been employed by Corbridge Brothers here, J.R. Simplot Co. and Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the LDS Church, National Riflemen’s Assn., Idaho Wildlife Federation and local sportsmen’s clubs.

Surviving are his widow; a son, John Clifford III; step children, Mark Trent, Candice Ann, Nike Larrain, all of Pocatello; parents, brother, Gerald, Malad; sisters, Carma, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Rex (Regina) Coburn, Pocatello; grandmother, Mrs. Annie Lamont, Ogden.

Bishop Roger Facer officiated at the services held at the Malad LDS Stake Center on Monday. Speakers were Bishop Lon Corbridge, Gary Rose and Rosella Smith, who read the obituary. Hubert Gleed offered the family prayer; Henry Gleed, invocation; LaVerl Womack, benediction. Eldon Corbridge, accompanied by Iris Blaisdell, sang a solo and Gilbert Myer, accompanying himself on the guitar, sang a solo. Mrs. Blaisdell played organ prelude and postlude music.

At Malad City Cemetery, Almo Bud Womack offered the dedicatory prayer. Members of the Pleasantview Ward Relief Society, Mrs. Blaisdell, president, carried the flowers.
