Services are being conducted today (Thursday) at Malad Fourth LDS Ward for John C. Nielsen, age 86, who died Monday morning at Oneida hospital of a heart ailment.
Bishop J. Arthur Servoss is conducting the service. Bishop Carl A. Evans will offer the family prayer. Speakers are E.N. Crowther, Dr. Thos. W. Richards and Bishop Servoss, who read the obituary. Musical numbers are solo, Eldon Corbridge; duet, Diane Facer and Ilene Reynolds; Violin selection, Fern Willie, with Mary Louise Peden and Margaret Laws as accompanists. Mrs. Laws also played the prelude and postlude. Prayers were offered by A. Golden Willie and Colen H. Sweeten, Jr.
Interment was at the Hyrum Utah cemetery, directed by Benson Funeral Home, Raiford G. Benson offered the dedicatory prayer.
Flowers were carried by members of the Fourth Ward Relief Society, Mrs. Edith Archibald, president. Casket bearers were Dennis N. Atkinson, Gerald N. Atkinson, Keith N. Atkinson, C. Gordon Ward, George Muirbrook and David Bickmore, with members of the High Priest Quorum, Malad Stake, as honorary bearers.
Mr. Nielsen was born May 2, 1864, at Copenhagen, Denmark, son of Niels and Hansina Anderson Nielsen. He came to the United States when he was nine and lived near Hyrum, Utah.
He married Annie Elison on Nov. 26, 1902 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. She died 11 years ago.
They homesteaded in the Pocatello area in 1917 and moved to Malad in 1923. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors are a son and three daughters: John G. Nielsen, Malad; Mrs. Alfred Atkinson, Samaria; Mrs. Paul Sevy, Bend, Oregon and Mrs. William G. Ward, Idaho Falls. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a brother and 4 sisters, Anton Nielsen, Oroville, Calif.; Mrs. John Christensen, Logan; Mrs. Wm. Bickmore, Bountiful; Mrs. Charles Cofer, Rupert; Mrs. Rollie Bennett, Rapid City, South Dakota.
