John G. Nielsen

MALAD — John Gustave Nielsen, 85, of Malad, died Thursday, March 5, 1992, in the Oneida County Nursing Home.

He was born March 26, 1906, in Hyrum City, Utah, a son of John Carl and Annie Josephine Eliason Nielsen. As a young man, the family had moved to Malad. He married Edith Vanderwood June 14, 1933, in Logan, Utah; they were later divorced. He married Charlotte “Shirley” C. Samfelice Oct. 3, 1944, in Springfield, Mo. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

He had been a farmer and rancher all his life in Pocatello Valley near Malad, and he had also worked in various other jobs in Ogden, Utah, and Sacramento, Calif. He was an active member of the LDS Church, and had held var­ious positions. He was also a mem­ber of the Malad Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Malad; two sons, Joseph Mark Nielsen of Malad, and John Gregory Nielsen, Shelley, Idaho; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Linda Ann) Morrison, East Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Rachel) Atkinson, Malad, and Mrs. William (Sylvia) Ward of Pocatello. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nora Shirlene Nielsen, and a sister, Effie Sevey.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel, Bishop Rex Robbins officiating. Friends may call at Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Monday just prior to services. Burial will be in the Hyrum City, Utah, Cemetery.
